Jira asset management template for inventory CSVs
Copy a laptop or software licence CSV, replace the fictional rows, and prepare your inventory for import into Assets, AssetPilot or Jira work items.
This Jira asset management template gives you CSV files for an IT asset inventory, with one file per asset type. Copy the laptops file below, replace the fictional rows, and follow the guidance for importing into Atlassian Assets, AssetPilot or Jira work items (issues).
What's in the template
The laptops file has 16 columns: inventory details followed by laptop-specific fields. The software licences variant has its own columns for licence details. Keep each asset type in a separate file.
These are inventory data templates. They provide rows to import; you still need to configure the destination fields and mapping. All example rows are fictional, including the example.com emails and SN-EXAMPLE serials.
Copy the laptops CSV
Copy the header and rows into a text file, replace the examples, and save it with a .csv extension.

AssetPilot
AssetPilot is made by Plugins Factory, the publisher of this page.
The column names are the same as in its import templates for the IT equipment Laptop and Licence types, so AssetPilot suggests the mapping for you. Review the mapping and the row validation before importing.
Assignee email does not set assignments during import. Check assets out to people after importing. Files can contain up to 10,000 rows and must be 5 MB or smaller; the separate site limit is 5,000 assets. Rows with errors are skipped, and duplicate tags or serials within the file are flagged.

Atlassian Assets
In your schema, open Schema settings → Import and create a CSV import structure. Map the columns to the intended object type and attributes, set mappings to ENABLED, then use Import data.
Set the date format to yyyy-MM-dd for these files: Assets defaults to MM/dd/yyyy. For later updates, configure a unique Tag or Serial attribute as the identifier; without an identifier, imports recreate objects. Map people using their email addresses.
Jira work items
A Jira admin can use System → External System Import → CSV. Map Name to Summary, which this route requires. This route creates work items for the inventory rows.
Follow the full steps to import assets into Jira from CSV.
Before you import
- Keep tags unique and never reuse them for another asset.
- Save or export the file as CSV with UTF-8 encoding, retaining the header row.
- Keep personal data to the work email addresses you need.
- In Assets, each row creating a new tracked item becomes one object. Check Jira asset management pricing before adding inventory.
Start with the laptops CSV above: replace the example rows, check the required fields, then follow your import route. For help choosing a destination, read the Jira asset management guide.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add my own columns?
Yes. AssetPilot includes a type's custom fields after the base columns in its import template. In Assets, map your columns to attributes in the import structure.
Why use one file per asset type?
Laptops and licences have different fields. Assets maps imported data to object types, while AssetPilot provides a template for each type.
Which date format should I use?
Use YYYY-MM-DD for these files. AssetPilot prefers that format; in Assets, configure the import structure to use yyyy-MM-dd instead of its default MM/dd/yyyy.
Can I use the template in Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Save or export the completed sheet as CSV with UTF-8 encoding.
